 | Update #4!
Our host is apparently unreliable when it comes to DNS information. The link chat.rivalsource.net should point to the correct server, while irc.rivalsource.net remains incorrect. Feel free to use whatever works for you. (Linux users may wish to issue # echo "207.10.232.132 irc.rivalsource.net" >> /etc/hosts to force the DNS to change. Windows users can similarly use echo 207.10.232.132 irc.rivalsource.net >> C WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts, provided they have administrative access.)
We're back! Please come visit us at 207.10.232.132 (as a side note, you can also use 3473598596)! You can connect using any of the following ports: 6660-6669, and SSL on 6697, if your client supports it. Unfortunately, the DNS Record hasn't updated yet, so please use the aforementioned IP to connect for now.
We apologize for all the recent changes and confusion, and hope that this is the last majour change that has to be made.
Don't forget to re-register your nickname/channel!

 | With most of the backend done and design well on its way to completion, I feel it's time to share some of our progress, Smash Update style.
Currently the news system is being perfected, paving the way for forums. You can expect an easy-to-use news system that makes it simple for both users and news editors alike to interact with the community. The news system will be shown on the homepage by default, but registered users can easily change that. In fact, you'll be able to customise a lot of the site.. but more on that later
We've also adopted an official design, nicknamed Candystripe. You can find a mockup of this here (note: as this is a mockup, the final product won't look exactly like this!). Notice the bright colours: that's the direction we're taking with this design, and you can also expect it to be fairly image-heavy. So what about those who don't want their bandwith whittled away by our pretty images?
...Well, we have a second theme choice, of course! In fact, there are many planned, we won't launch with more than two. It's lightweight and very attractive, as well as nostalgic for members of a certain late online community, earning its nickname: Nostalgia. You'll even be able to change the colours, so you can customise it even further.
That's quite enough revelations for now. But not to fear, there will be many, many more to come, on our journey to RivalSource 1.0. |

 | ...or hardly working?
I'm pleased to announce that &ShadowX and I are working closely together to bring some new features before (and will remain after) the site launches
In the meantime, you'll just have to enjoy these forums while ~Aaron and I get the site designed and fully functional.
Launch is not far away! |

 | As promised, I'm here to discuss the RivalSource Staff Team. We currently have a wonderful, and small, team that keep things running around here.
- The Administrators
- ~Kevin - Founder
- ~Aaron - Co-founder
- ~Sephiroth - Pays the bills
- Moderators
- IRC Operators
- Other Positions
- ~Kevin is in charge of Public Relations (PR), and Design
- ~Aaron is our lead developer
- ~Sephiroth manages site advertisements and IRC hosting costs.
These are all volunteer positions. No one is paid; in fact, server costs come out of our own pockets.
Our system is organized by a series of symbols indicating rank. Each rank is better than the one preceding it and inherits more power.
- ~ - Administrator
Top level staff, administrators manage the entire network and have ultimate access to it. Administrators have the final say over all other staff and regular members.
- & - Designer or Developer
These are the people that make the network look and run the way it does. They have few additional privileges than moderators, and are promoted only by administrators after demonstrating a proficiency in C# development or modern web design.
- @ - Moderator and/or Chatroom Operator
These staff members help keep things sane in the forums and our IRC chatrooms. They are promoted solely by administrators, and are selected on an as-needed basis from the best, most helpful members of the community.
- % - Senior Member
A user becomes a senior member after he or she has been around for several months, and has been found by a moderator to be a positive asset to the community. Additionally, if any higher-ranking staff member should resign, they are automatically a member of this group.
- + - Member
- Nothing - New user or Guest
- ! - Banned
Users who violated our rules and now are forbidden from using the network.
Well, there you have it. RivalSource Staff in a nutshell |

 | Remember us? It's been a while, so you'll probably want a little refresher. RivalSource is the evolution of Wintendo, the Nintendo Gaming Site. We've expanded to a whole network of services, most of which are under development, and now we're an all-around gaming site -- not just Nintendo.
RivalSource is for you. We've designed our whole network with our users in mind, and we strive to deliver elegant, innovative services without charging large sums of money.
What you're seeing right now is a temporary forum system. After over a year of downtime and inactivity, we're alive and kicking and this is our proof. You're welcome to post, interact, and bring new members -- all posts and users on this forum will be migrated to the actual forums in the upcoming month(s) when our true website is rolled out. We won't make any more empty promises; this website is an enormous project, and it will be ready when it is ready -- we aren't setting deadlines, or telling people what will be released when. We'll always keep you posted when something is released, however.
For several months we have already offered our IRC Service to the public, and we're going to continue promoting this. You can visit our IRC Chat by clicking the Chat button that you see at the top of the page. IRC is a fast and easy way to get in touch with other members, hold discussions, and chat in real-time with your friends. For more information, see this sticky.
Finally, we'd just like to take this moment to officially welcome our members -- old and new. It's been a long, long journey for us, and we're very proud that we've even reached this point. You'll hear more about the project, the network, our staff, and other things soon. But for now, get posting, and don't forget to tell your friends!
